Malmo, Sweden – Not everyone would compare Sweden to the place where Noah spent 150 years building his ark. But for Phil and Juliene Munts, the parallels are quite clear. As they stand at the threshold of a project to relaunch the Church of the Nazarene in Sweden, they keep reminding themselves that God only calls them to obey, not to understand or foresee what He plans to do. And they must leave any results completely up to Him. As tentmakers, this Nazarene family from Idaho are taking the first steps toward launching a café ministry in the rural area where they now live....

Editor's note: Missionaries Ruthie Webb writes about her husband Phil's recent trip to encourage and assist Nazarene ministry in Cambodia, on the Asia-Pacific Region. Cambodia, the heart of South East Asia, sits within the 10/40 window. Over 50 percent of the 14.5 million people are under the age of 20; only 1 percent are Christ-followers, and 12,023 villages have yet to hear the gospel in this beautiful country.Local Nazarene churches in Cambodia are vibrant, young, rural, local bodies of believers meeting under trees, homes and a few churches, bringing God’s kingdom to their community...

For Nathalie Sweeting, when God says “jump,” she jumps. She doesn’t always know what God has in mind, but she knows to obey. That’s how two years ago she found herself standing in a vacant lot on one of the Caribbean islands that make up the Turks and Caicos, armed with a Bible and a megaphone, preaching to the cracked concrete and overgrown bushes. It’s Sweeting’s unfailing obedience to God’s sometimes inexplicable directions that made it possible for the Church of the Nazarene to officially enter Turks and Caicos earlier this year, making it the 158th world area in which the...

After 18 years as director of Nazarene Global Mission, Dr. Louie Bustle retired on April 1. Engage magazine caught up to him on Monday, April 2, to ask him how he and his wife, Ellen, started in missions, to share highlights of their years of service, to tell his most frightening travel experience, and what he’s doing now. Ellen joined the phone interview briefly several times.  Engage: How did your last week go as Global Mission director? Bustle: I’ve turned things over to Verne Ward, the new director (read more) very well and spent a lot of time with him; he’s a fast learner...

In the Highlands of Papua New Guinea, kids between the ages of 2 and 6 years old are fighting a battle for their lives and they don’t even know it. For many, the odds are against them.  The Highlands culture is one of subsistence farming, where many eat what grows out of their garden and only occasionally enjoy protein at mumu celebrations.  As a result, the majority of kids are malnourished and don’t have enough of the enzyme needed to breakdown protein.  Kaukau (sweet potateo), their dietary staple, also serves to inhibit what enzymes they do have. As a result, when...

In 2 Chronicles 7:14, God says, “If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”About 12 years ago, a couple of Thai pastors in Bangkok began to pray for Thailand, asking God to bring revival and to change lives of Thai people, bringing them out of darkness and into His marvelous light. A Thai senior pastor from the (Anglican) Christ Church organized the first National Day of Prayer for Thailand in 2000, concluding 40 days of prayer...

Kathmandu, Nepal – One summer morning, Shyam backpacked to the highway near his home to a bus stop, where he began a four-hour journey to Hetauda, in Central Nepal. Disembarking at 11 a.m., he made his way to the local church where other members of his Nazarene Compassionate Ministries (NCM) survey team were waiting. After a short orientation from the program coordinator on conducting a household survey, the group divided into two teams of two people. Shyam and his assistant then took a taxi to Basamadi village; the other team went to Lamitar. To carry out the surveys, these...

Editor's note: Joshua and Katie Haun are volunteer missionaries in Razgrad, Bulgaria, through the Nazarene Theological Seminary (NTS) 365 Days in Mission program. Joshua recounts the harrowing experience of returning from picking up music trainers from an airport in Romania during a deadly snowstorm at the start of an unusual cold wave that gripped Europe for several weeks. This story is a reminder of how important it is to continuously intercede for the safety and well-being of our brothers and sisters in God's mission.Razgrad, Bulgaria -- On January 25, I left at about 10 a.m. to drive...
