JESUS Film Harvest Partners recently received the first report from JESUS Film ministry teams in Congo of their efforts to share God’s love with the people of Congo. The initial report indicates 698 evangelistic contacts using the JESUS film, with 209 individuals making a decision to follow Christ. The first film showings were in April as part of a strategy for evangelism outreach, follow-up discipleship and church planting.
Joseph, a new believer, said, “I realized that the only one who can deliver me is Jesus. Through the film, which nurtured me, I decide to leave my evil ways which did not confess Jesus. I commit myself to follow Him and am ready to testify to the Lordship of Christ.”
Congo, officially known as the Republic of Congo, is often confused with its neighbor across the river, the Democratic Republic of Congo. Formerly a French colony, Congo is made up of a rich landscape of waterfalls, swamps and rapids, with the northern country distinguished by huge tracts of pristine forest and an abundance of wildlife. The forest is also home to several indigenous tribes who have maintained their traditional way of life. With a land mass slightly smaller than Montana and a population over 4 million, the official language is French.
The four-person JESUS Film team is responsible for showing the film in the language of the people, explaining the plan of salvation, providing follow-up discipleship with new believers and helping to establish a preaching point. Teams often work for one month in the same area before moving to a different location. During the time in the community, team members identify a leader for the new preaching point.
JESUS Film Harvest Partners supports over 300 teams worldwide whose challenge is to share the love of God with the lost.
